Terms & Privacy
Last updated: October 5, 2023
Thrivent may use text messaging, including Short Message Service (SMS) or Multimedia Message Services (MMS), collectively referred to in these Terms of Use as “texting,” to communicate with you for various business purposes. You will find more detailed description of texting programs & campaigns below, including frequency and opt-out options.
Message and data rates may apply. While Thrivent will never charge you to participate in a texting program, your standard carrier rates may apply. Be sure to check your mobile carrier plan for details.
All texting programs require a text-enabled mobile device.
In all cases, any information you provide to Thrivent is used in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Furthermore, for purposes of clarity, when you opt-in to a specific texting campaign, your phone number will not be used or shared to opt you into any additional campaigns, unless we receive the necessary consent from you to do so.
Please note that, in general, texting is not a secure mode of communication and no sensitive personal information should be provided via text. In accordance with our policy, Thrivent will never ask you to send personal information via text.
You may receive links to web pages or forms via text. While Thrivent would never intentionally send you a malicious link, you should only click links that you are expecting or that you are familiar with.
Thrivent will not tolerate the misuse of any texting program or service. Thrivent will terminate your ability to use or participate in any texting program or service if at any point, in Thrivent’s sole discretion, it is determined that you have used Thrivent’s texting programs or services to (a) send material that is harassing, defamatory, libelous, abusive, threatening, obscene, or coercive, (b) distribute content that violates the rights of any person or company protected by copyright, trade secret, patent or other intellectual property or similar laws or regulations, or (c) introduce malicious programs or other routines that are intended to damage, interfere with, intercept or expropriate any system, data or personal information, including executing any form of monitoring that will intercept data not expressly approved for use.

Communications with a financial advisor
Connect with a Thrivent or TAN financial advisor (FA) via text and discuss business relationship issues or products and services you own or have expressed interest in. For example, you could inquire when your next educational event is or ask who you can contact to learn more about a product or service. You can also receive timely reminders about future appointments! However, you will not be able to request trades or perform other product transactions via text, and you will not be able to send attachments to, nor receive attachments from, a FA via text. Also, we will not text you personally identifiable financial, health, or sensitive information and you should not text financial, health, or sensitive personal or confidential information, such as your Social Security number, Thrivent/TAN ID, driver’s license number, financial account number or medical information, to your FA as texting communications are not secure.
FAs will not use texting to market to you.
If you are an existing Thrivent or TAN client and you have a mobile phone number on file, you have provided the necessary consent to allow your FA to text you regarding your client relationship. In all other cases, an FA will need to obtain consent before starting a text dialogue with you. Your consent can be provided verbally or will be implied based upon your actions, such as providing an FA your mobile phone number or by your initiation of text communication to the FA’s text message number.
If you wish to no longer receive texts from a specific Thrivent or TAN FA, you can text “STOP” to the FA’s text message number. You will receive one confirmation message to verify that you have been opted out. If you wish to opt-out of all FA texting, visit the Opt-Out of Financial Advisor Texting page and choose to no longer receive texts from any Thrivent or TAN FA. You may also opt-out of all FA texting by calling our call center at 1-800-847-4836 and saying “texting” when prompted.
If you previously opted out of texts by responding “STOP” to a specific FA’s text message number and you now wish to begin texting with that FA again, you can text “UNSTOP” to the FA’s text message number. However, if you previously opted out of all FA texting, you will need to call our call center and request that you be removed from the all-FA texting opt-out list before any FA will be able to communicate with you via text.
The frequency of texts received will depend on the level of interaction you have with your FA.
You may text GETINFO to the FA’s text number at any time to receive additional assistance. You may also call our call center if you have any questions or concerns.
Recurring short code messages
Thrivent offers short code capabilities–444555–for those interested in subscribing to one or multiple recurring text message programs.
To receive text messages from our Short Code, clients must provide opt-in consent and a mobile phone number to which communications will be sent.
The frequency of messages depends on your engagement with the messaging program(s). For content pushed to your device, you will receive no more than four messages per month.
Short code services are available on most carriers including U.S. Cellular, AT&T, Cellular One, T-Mobile, Sprint, Boost, MetroPCS, Verizon Wireless, Alltel Wireless and Virgin Mobile. Carriers are not responsible for delayed or undelivered messages.
You may cancel your subscription to all Thrivent Short Code programs by texting STOP to 444555.
Additional opt-out words such as STOP, QUIT, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, and STOP ALL are also supported.
You can also get info directly on your phone by texting HELP to 444555.
Service will continue until the client cancels.
Mutual Fund transaction confirmation
Certain Mutual Fund transactions completed through our Call Center are eligible to receive a text message confirming the request has been completed. Call Center agents will offer the text message confirmation to a shareholder once an eligible transaction has been completed. The confirmation message will only be sent once consent is provided by the shareholder and the cell phone number has been confirmed. This is not an automated service; shareholders will have the opportunity to accept or decline the text confirmation with each phone call where an eligible transaction is completed.
